Hi,
hope all are well. Been a while since my last blog now.
So whats been happening since? Well, About 1 1/2 weeks ago I went to Malta to work alongside photographer Julian Knight on the Fashion Photography Holiday Workshop.
After no sleep I met up with 2 of the models 3:30AM in rainy London to head to the airport where we met our amazing makeup artist Roseanna Velin (her blog) After a 3 hour flight we arrived in the sun. Weather was great, blue skys, fresh air and around 25 degrees. From the airport we then headed over to the port to get the 25min ferry to the island of Gozo. On the ferry I realised how much I missed the blue ocean.
Once arrived on Gozo we went to the house, nice big house, amazing views and a pool (you can see some images on Julian's page as well as on my facebook).
First day was just relaxing. On Friday morning we then started with day 1 out of 6 of the workshop.
Roseanna did amazing makeup for Jackie, Laura and Alycia and we started shooting. During the 6 days we did various fashion shots around the house as well as on the rocks next to the sea.
It was great to set up lighting for various shoots to get the best out of the shots as well as creating a bit of a set around the locations such as the gas bottles on one shoot or getting all together for the pool shoot.
After the shoots it was looking through the images and all came with great results even Kate, a fashion designer who never shot before herself had some amazing shots. On 2 days we used some of her dresses for the shoots.
Just before the workshop ended Roseanna and myself then got asked if we wanted to stay till the next workshop and work again on the next one. Couldn't resist the idea of another 3 weeks of sun.
The next workshop is coming closer and am already looking forward to some more amzing shoots. If you want some great locations combined with great models and makeup and get new images for your portfolio vist the webpage for more information. Hope I will see some of you there.
For more of my work visit my page and like my facebook. And for any enquiries feel free to message me directly here.
Here just a small selection of shots from the last week.
Have a nice week and greetings from sunny Malta.

A colourful Fashion Shoot
Hi,
Sorry for not having posted anything recently... weather just hasn't been on my side for outdoor shoots.
Well, after a small break I am back and did a fashion shoot yesterday with stylist Sam, makeup artist Jieun, hair stylist Lily and model Rosie from 'First'.
We had 5 different outfits, 3 quite colourful ones and 2 less colourful ones designed by Sam herself.
As we didn't have much time, we started to get ready at a cafe, doing makeup and started blowing up balloons... at least I was quicker than the pump but at the end started to feel slightly dizzy, well I guess after blowing up 20 or so balloons in a short time I could have expected that.
With the first 2 outfits (self designed ones) we had a more natural look on Rosie, open hair and very natural makeup. I used a big Octa softbox and a beauty dish to get my lighting and a bit of a side light from camera left to reduce some shadow.
For the next shoot we then placed the balloons on the floor, though not very visible in the shots as they were white as well they gave some nice reflections. For those shots hair was styled up and small touch up on makeup as well. Lighting for those shots were one hair light, soft box on camera right as fill, beauty dish above model and a strip softbox for the backdrop.
With the last 3 outfits we started at 4:45 and we had to be done shooting at 5:30 so 15min per outfit incl change so it was a bit of a rush but it worked out well. After the shooting we then had to pop all 50 balloons, was surprised nobody checked what was going on....
Next big thing for me now is a week trip to Malta to assist on a workshop, for those of you in the UK, believe me, I am looking forward to escaping this weather for a week.
As always, again a huge thank you to all involved in the shoot, though rushed at the end we got some good shots out of it.
For any enquries please feel free to visit my webpage or email me directly. Also, come and check out my facebook, place where I post behind the scene shots and post updates and follow my Twitter.
Have a great week

Art Nude shoot
Hey,
hope you are well.
Had a number of shoots over the last 2 weeks so a few more blogs to come to show some of my latest work, but for today, I will talk about my last shoot, an art nude shoot with model Elle Black.
She has access to an old school where we did the shoot. After a tour around the building I already had some ideas in mind for different rooms, though to be honest there was so much more to do but time just wasn't enough.
First we started with a shoot with an old Victorian dress from 1901 outside the school building, luckily enough, weather was good so though we make use of it. I had one octa softbox on my flash which I used whenever the clouds covered the sun (so basicly every 2 min switiching flash on and off, change settings on camera and back 2 min later).
After the Victorian dress we went into one of the classrooms with large windows. Already on the tour I just thought of the image, standing in the window with the silhouette of her against the light. I was shooting on 1/200 with F2.8 and ISO 100 most the time against the window though changed shutter up and down depending on how much light I wanted on her. Had a reflector up however as the sun at that point was behind clouds the effect was non visible.
Next we went into the old indoor basketball court which was still set up for the last exam that took place at the school (there is a plain shot on my facebook wall here). The court with all those empty tables and chairs and the echo reminded of a Horror movie and thats what I wanted to show in my pictures. Had a few shots that showed the entire room though my favourite shots where real dark images lit with one softbox from the side giving just enough light to see her as well as a bit of the tables around her. Again shot on F2.8 with a fast shutter speed to get the darkness into the room yet to get the focus just on her.
Last room we used was the old theater with huge windows on the top creating a great shadow when the sun was out which I managed to capture towards the end.
Before that, I shot from the balcony down capturing her lying down on the wooden floor. To get some light I used again the octa softbox high up shooting down.
Leave a comment below, would love to hear your feedback.
For further information and enquiries please email me or check out my webpage. And feel free to like my facebook page, be up to date with shoots, see behind the scenes shots and be the first to get heads up when a new blog is up.
Once again, huge THANK YOU to Elle for the shoot, great model and great location.

The future of photography and video?
Hey,
I still remember my first digital camera, a small (or actually rather big) point and shoot camera with 1.2MP, that must be now around 10 years ago. At the same time, mobile phones were used to text and call, maybe you were lucky and had an alarm clock in it or even a 0.4MP camera. Few years later I got the first affordable DSLR with 6MP, a lot at the time and the mobile phones got better cameras.
Where are we now? Point and shoot cameras have more and more megapixels, the top end DSLR cameras go above 20MP and mobile phones, well they are now used to shoot commercials...
Such as the latest HTC One commerical that has been shot eralier this year over the Arizona desert.
The shoot was with Roberta Mancino (announced BASE jumper and skydiver as well as published model that has shot for Vogue Italy, Vanity fair, Rolling Stone and others) who did a fashion shoot in freefall. Photography studtent Nick Jojola was using the phone to not only film the jump for the commercial but also to take a photo with the phone.
Besides the challenges of the freefall and the speed (120+ miles per hour) there was also the callenge of makeup. It had to be perfect like on any other fashion shoot, and like on any other fashion shoot there were touch ups, this time though during freefall. Next challenge, the clothes, they had to withstand strong winds of speed up to 180miles/hr. The high heels Roberta is wearing during the jump weren't either the easiest shoes to land in thus after her first landing in the heels she ended up taking them off before the landing.
I find it amazing how fast digital photography has changed and am exited to see what the future brings.
Will more commercials be filmed and shot on mobiles?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
And now, the commercial and below the making... enjoy
